Wharton and Codman rejected the Victorian clutter popular at the time and inspired a generation of designers who espoused elegant, functional style and who were years ahead of their time. Historical and modern photographs of apartments and townhouses along with well-written biographical sketches of the designers make this a valuable addition to the literature of interior design.
