Jessica is going to Hell.
After settling a fragile truce between the vampires, werewolves and witches, the last thing Jessica wants to do is face the demons head on. But when the Prince of Hell kidnapped her brother, he set into motion a chain of events that even Jessica doesn't have the power to stop.
Now, Jessica must go into battle again. But Hell is a whole new beast -- new rules, more dangerous demons, and an entirely foreign realm. And when Jessica is dropped into the Underworld too soon, without protection or the help of her friends, she must figure out just how powerful she can be... or she will never make it out alive.
The fourth Jessica McClain novel -- a fast-paced and irresistibly sexy urban fantasy series reminiscent of Kelley Armstrong and Patricia Briggs.

THE JESSICA McCLAIN SERIES: A WELL-CRAFTED, DELIGHTFULLY ESCAPIST, BARREL FULL OF FUN!
By The Literacy Advocate
NOTE: SERIES READING ORDER APPEARS AT END OF REVIEW!

The Jessica McClain series is an action-packed, fantasy-filled, paranormal urban fiction series peppered with romance among "mates" of various supernatural and human species. In this genre-bending series, the heroine, feisty and funny Jessica McClain confronts all kinds of 'supe' bad-guys/gals, and always manages to figure out (or be cosmically thrust into) the way to save the day. Along the way, the consequences of her choices and actions (always accompanied by a hefty dose of Murphy's law) create entanglements which, happily, the reader cannot always see coming. There is a sense of roller-coaster riding action throughout each book in this series, and the only thing we can be certain of is that Jessica and her pals will have very little downtime (no mundane, everyday activities in these books) before the next crisis or cataclysm arrives at their doorstep.

In RED BLOODED, which picks up immediately where COLD BLOODED ends, Jessica is inadvertently transported to the Underworld, before she is able to finish the training given her by the witches (under the direction of coven leader Tally) and her mate Rourke (one of the planet's strongest supernaturals). The majority of the story takes place in the Underworld, where Jessica is caught between the hidden agendas of many creature baddies, including Lili (a descendant of Lilith), and both the Demon Princess and the Demon Prince of Hell (who's had it out for Jessica for quite some time). Eventually Jessica's loved ones, and a few powerful allies whom she definitely does not love, arrive to help, and the action, suspense, and mystery as they try to ascertain whom to trust and whom to kill is quite clever. Add in Jessica's droll sense of humor as she is caught in impossible circumstances, and the heat generated between her and Rourke, and we have an all-around smashing story! As we have come to expect with Ms. Carlson's books, Jessica manages to save the day, but right around the corner, on the last page, is the next.....well, we'll have to wait for the next book to find out.

My only criticism of RED BLOODED, and the reason this is a 4-star review rather than a 5-star, is that the character of Rourke, Jessica's mate, was sadly marginalized. Rourke is so fascinating and compelling a character that he is truly worthy of his own book in the series. If Ms. Carlson must stay true to her single point-of-view voice (Jessica), then I am hoping she will see her way to expanding the character of Rourke. Not even the romance scene (sadly, only one) was taken to the level which Rourke is screaming to get to...and which Jessica would clearly be one hundred percent into...Rourke simply deserves more. In fact, there is tremendous subplot potential for many of Ms. Carlson's wonderful characters; I'd love to see any of them explored more fully, rather than the simple anecdotes they are represented by as they help Jessica move the plot forward. The author truly has a knack for creating well-rounded, unique characters which spring to life on the page; now we just need to see them given their due.

The JESSICA McCLAIN SERIES is a well-crafted, delightfully escapist barrel full of fun! Jump on!

It is best to follow the SERIES READING ORDER (as of 9/2014):
1. BLOODED - an e-novella (only); Jessica's backstory; this may be omitted or read at any time (April 2012)
2. FULL BLOODED (June 2012)
3. HOT BLOODED (April 2013)
4. COLD BLOODED (October 2013)
5. RED BLOODED (September 2014)

Red Blooded
By Angie
Red Blooded brings even more action, plot twists, and prophecies! It is nonstop goodness! It all starts with Jessica preparing for her impending trip to the Underworld. The witches are throwing demon magic at her to teach her how to defend herself against it, but instead, it sends her straight to Hell early! Without her team with her, and not completing her training, Jessica has to improvise. She’s got to figure out where she landed and how to get to wherever her brother is being held, get him out, and get them home all on her own. Definitely not easy especially when the Underworld is full of all kinds of nasty creatures that come out at night, and a blistering sun during the day.

The majority of Red Blooded is set in the Underworld and I loved it! When Jessica first arrived, it’s not at all how she (or I) pictured it. It’s very clean and orderly, which was strange. But that’s only one small section. There are place where the walls are alive and full of veins! There’s sludge, and deadly creatures and darkness! It’s also impossible to tell how time is passing, since it’s not in synch with the human plane. For instance, Jessica’s brother was taken 5 days ago, but he’s been held captive and tortured for two months! Jessica needs to hurry up and do what she’s doing and get back, since there’s not telling how long she’s been gone, or what could happen in that time!

We’re also introduced to a very interesting new character in Red Blooded. Jessica stumbles upon someone who says they can help her, but also admits to being extremely dangerous which is exactly why she’s locked away. Lily is not what she seems at all, but she holds some important information regarding the supposed prophecies about Jessica. It’s good stuff to know, if they can tell what’s true and what was fabrication. Of course, there’s a lot more that no one knows exactly, and everyone was just as confused as me by the end of it all! But it’s clear that something huge is coming!

I very much enjoyed Red Blooded! It had none of the overly chatty problems I had with the previous book (Jessica still does talk a lot, but she doesn’t repeat herself nearly as much!). The pacing was great, the plot was engaging, the world building was fantastic! And in the midst of all that crazy, there’s still a little time for romance! Of course, it ends on a cliffhanger! I need Pure Blooded ASAP!

Sheer delight!
By Marta Cox
Wow I do not believe just how much I loved this book! I have always enjoyed this series with its unique heroine and it's surely a must read for fans of urban fantasy but with this instalment the author has taken it up a notch and then some! There is so much happening in this book and the heroine Jessica is well and truly in the thick if it. She has survived so much already and fought so hard for those she loves but when the Prince of Hell targets her brother she is really going to need to get out her big girl panties ! Anyone else would run screaming in the opposite direction but not this girl no she will stop at nothing to get Tyler back and if that means quite literally going to Hell well bring it on!
So much comes to fruition in this book. Jessica is much feared as a long foretold prophecy mentions her causing widespread chaos and change in Hell so naturally as far as the Prince of Hell is concerned taking her out is a priority but nothing is ever straight forward. Somehow Jessica has to find a way to get in , get Tyler and then somehow get them both out again but even with the witches on her side things have a way of going wrong. Jessica may have a powerful Lycan form but it's the magical properties in her blood that create all kinds of trouble and speaking of trouble in the Underworld there's only so much a girl can hide from. Jessica needs to keep all her wits sbout her and trust her inner wolf as she takes a journey that will truly test her mettle .
I loved this book! Yes I have always liked this series but the non stop roller coaster ride the author gives us here was simply adrenaline filled! There's so much humour written into it as well from clumsy antics to demon piglets! The author has written in such a way that I had pictures in my mind of a truly unusual version of Hell that felt both awe inspiring and yet at the same time as creepy as well, Hell!
Jessica has come into her own and fully embraced all that she can be. For most of this book she has none of her usual allies with her but fans of Roarke need not fear he is still a very real presence in her life and as this is urban fantasy the sex takes a back seat but that does not mean it lacks romance . For me personally it's the little things like the grumpy Ray manning up and accepting the changes that life is throwing about that makes this action packed story so very good. Nothing is going to be easy though and both old and new enemies will make strange bedfellows as our heroine journeys through the Underworld. Jessica is truly a heroine to get behind and finally (thankfully) it seems as if both this reader and the characters realise that. Does she rescue her brother? Well as this is Jessica you can be assured of one thing and that's the fact that she will keep going no matter what . There was very little pack involvement in this story which might disappoint some readers but the ending opens up a whole new can of worms and if the next instalment is as fast paced and exciting as this then I for one will be panting to get my hands on it. I have always liked these stories but this book I loved. This series is a delight to read and I heartily recommend it.
